Price Increases
PRICE INCREASES (2019)
Boba Guys and Gals,
It’s been two years since we’ve changed prices, and so much has changed! We’ve tried to absorb as much as we could, but we will unfortunately need to increase our prices by $0.25 - $0.75 by late July 2019. This increase will only affect select items at our San Francisco, San Carlos, Palo Alto and New York stores. (Strawberry Matcha Latte is staying the same!)
In the spirit of transparency, here are the main reasons why:
Since 2017, minimum wage in these regions has increased by over 11%. We pay our Bobaristas above the minimum wage, and adjust relative to current minimum wage. When minimum wage increases, so do our wages.
We’re moving to compostables! We’ve started with biodegradable bamboo fiber straws and are looking for better alternatives for all of our single-use plastics. We aren’t gonna lie - plastic alternatives are more expensive (our biodegradable straws alone are 4x as much as plastic straws) but they are a step forward towards a more sustainable future. It’s the right thing to do.
The cost of waste management has increased. Refuse collection rates have gone up in most of our regions in the last two years. With our move towards compostables, we also spend more time (labor) dedicated to properly sorting our trash, compost, and recyclables in stores.
Trade tariffs. Many of our goods are imported, our teas included. Changes in tariffs are meaningful, impacting the cost of making our drinks.
Lastly - we are committed to improving compensation and benefits for our team. We want to make sure we take care of our team, because they are the ones who take care of you.

Here’s the original video we shot in 2016 before our 2017 price increases, when prices went up $0.25. As you can see, our audio/visual budget is still the same.
